Cannot download Sourcetree on Macbook

I am unable to download Sourcetree, this is the message I get:

“Sourcetree 2” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

The version of Mac I have is: macOS Catalina

I got the same.

got it work, by

  1. going to https://www.sourcetreeapp.com/download-archives
  2. download and install 2.1
  3. from within sourcetree, use the check for updates option.
  4. keep updating, till you get to version 4.0.2(236)
