Anyone know what causes this error when trying to clone a bitbucket repo?: fatal: invalid branch na

My repo looks fine in Chrome on the bitbucket site.  I try to clone it with Sourcetree and I get cloned with errors.  The final statement is: 

fatal: invalid branch name: init.defaultBranch = 

I have uninstalled Sourcetree and deleted the app data, re-installed but I get the same problem.  Also, this has happed on two separate laptops so I imagine it is something with my account on Sourcetree.  Any help would be appreciated.
