2020 - Can't connect JIRA support desk custom email to gmail

Edited

Hi Guys,

I cannot get JIRA Service Desk to use my custom gmail support account. I tred to use the regular password, and I even created an app password on the gmail account (and used that generated key). No luck either way.

I'm getting a growl message that says:
Unfortunately JIRA couldn't connect to the mail server. Here is what the mail server said: "[AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)"

I'm struggling. What do I need to do?

Thank you, :]
Chris

I had the exact same problem, but I found a fix in these two articles. It turns out the problem lies in the 2FA. My fix was:

  1. Activate 2FA
  2. Create an app specific password for Jira Service Desk
  3. Voilà! Success!

Here are the two articles that walked me through this:

Good luck!
