Warning Log in BigPicture / BigGantt for Jira Cloud

Hello everyone,

Have you sometimes wondered what these pesky warnings in your plugin are for? Well, it appears that they are there for a reason and when ignored, may cause some serious inconvenience and cripple your PPM experience.

So, what are these 'Warnings'?

"Warnings are event messages which appear while our plugin is operating. Every time Add-on needs intervention from a user or an administrator, it generates a specific warning.

Warnings' presence is indicated at plugins header by exclamation triangle on a red field, that replaces BigGantt's or BigPicture's logo icon."

If you are seeing similar warnings in 99% of cases, it would mean that you need to add missing custom fields to your project screens. So how to proceed...?

Step 1 - "Identify the missing fields"

Firstly of all you need to identify what your custom fields stand for. These fields have numbers and obviously are different for different instances so you have to pay attention to your 'Program Warnings' screen which returns the 'Project Key' and the 'customfield_number' you need to look after.

Now go to Jira Administration >> Add-ons >> [BIGPICTURE / BIGGANTT] Gantt Configuration menu to the left and find those fields.

Step 2 - "Add the missing fields to your project"

Once you know what your fields are, you have to add these fields to dedicated screens of your Project.

Go to your Projects list in Jira and choose the project identified by the KEY you see in the error prompt.

Choose any issue, open it in new browser tab and click on the 'See the old view' link.

From the 'Admin' dropdown menu choose 'Where is my field?'

Start typing in the name of the field which you identified to be related to your error (warning) and choose it from filtered fields list.

Once you get the dialog box , scroll down the prompt and click the 'Scrum Default Issue Screen' link next to red [X] icon.

It will take you to the 'Issues' configuration screen.

Here you need to add the name of the field which you identified to be related to your error (warning) at the bottom 'Select Field' input.

Please, make sure to add all the missing fields!

Step 3 - 'Clear the Warning Log'

The final step is to click 'Clear log' button as soon as the pop-up error message appears again.

And that's all there is. Warnings should no longer pop-up on your BigPicture / BigGantt screen. Though, if they do, feel free to read a more detailed guide in SoftwarePlant's Documentation. Alternatively, you may contact our Support Team via Jira ServiceDesk

I hope you will find this piece useful!

Cheers,

Piotrek of SoftwarePlant
