What is a Business Process Manager?

First of all, it`s necessary to understand what is a business process. Simply put, a business process in Jira is a set of tasks or activities that make up how a company does business. Without a clear idea of what your business processes are, it's difficult to operate efficiently. In this article, we'll explain why the business process is important and what is business process manager.

Why Should You Have a Business Process?

Having a clear flow for every business process can greatly improve productivity. When employees understand the process, they can be more engaged and committed to the success of the company. Managers have a much easier time keeping track of everything because their tasks are clearly laid out in advance and nobody skips around in the process without proper explanation. This makes it easier to identify gaps in knowledge and skills and to assign appropriate training and coaching.

Managers familiar with the business processes can also detect errors and oversights more quickly, leading to fewer corrections and lost productivity later on. So, in a nutshell, making sure that every business process is streamlined and error-free is beneficial to the company as a whole.

What is a Business Process Manager in Jira?

A Business Process Manager is a person (usually a manager or senior manager) who is responsible for the overall process of a company. But, in our case, Business Process Manager is a no-code add-on that allows users to organize business processes into workflows. A workflow is a sequence of tasks with forms that can be performed by different people in different roles within your company.

What does a Jira BPM do?

The main aim of BPM is to streamline processes and support teams with automatical flow. To provide such an opportunity, here are the most common add-on features:

  • Create a template of the process with the scope of tasks (steps).
  • Build the dynamic forms in the Jira issue using the When/Then logic.

  • Choose the project and assignee(s) (group of assignees) to place the task with the form.

  • Set up the custom workflow, so, tasks will be created sequentially, simultaneously, with conditions.
  • Configure the deadline and status of the completed task.
  • Start the template of the process manually, by scheduling or combining it with Jira Automation to trigger process after the certain actions.
  • Ensure the quality and timely implementation of tasks by approvals.
  • Identify the existing processes going.

This is an excellent overview of what a BPM does. Make sure to read the full article to get the whole picture.
