Tables in Confluence Cloud: Basics and Advanced Features

Where does your team collaborate and host the corporate wiki? Let us guess. It must be Confluence, right?

Confluence Cloud empowers users with many instruments for content organization. But let’s face it; we tend to stick to good old tables. Today we’re sharing tips for working with tables in Confluence Cloud

Working with Confluence Tables: Learn the Basics

Building tables in Confluence is a quick means of information presentation. We love using tables for data visualization for many reasons:

  • The table view keeps information structured.
  • Readers instantly understand how to work with information in tables.
  • Tables are fast and easy to create and format.
  • You can reuse information between several tables or merge it into one.
  • You can create advanced Confluence tables with date pickers, statuses, or other dropdowns.
  • You can easily transform table data into charts if needed.

When you start your table in Confluence Cloud, mind a few tips:

  • add the heading row or column to highlight its content
  • configure the table width with the selector to its right

  • select the cell background color to differentiate between the table content
  • add automatic numbering to table rows with the numbered column

Working with Confluence Tables: Try Advanced Features

For those of you who need more pro options for Confluence Cloud tables, we have a solution with two Stiltsoft apps, Handy Macros and Table Filter and Charts for Confluence. It will help you create dropdowns and date pickers to tables and filter and visualize table data later.

For a quick start, add Handy Status to tables to create dropdowns if you want:

  • create the options you need once and reuse them across pages
  • update values when viewing a page without entering the edit mode
  • stop typing values manually and speed up your work with tables

 If you need the ability to update dates quickly, Handy Date is a good fit. This macro allows you to select new dates in tables on the fly and save time on page editing.

Use the combination of Handy Macros and Table Filter and Charts for Confluence Cloud. The Table Filter and Charts app allows you to visualize table data with pivots and charts.
