Get a Proper Timeline for your Team's Work

This task is not the easiest one but with the assistance of the ActivityTimeline it becomes effortless. ActivityTimeline is an add-on for Jira which is highly useful in visualization of the teams’ workflow and is available on the Atlassian Marketplace - ActivityTimeline: Plan&Track Resources.

The app’s timeline panels help to get a proper work schedule for long- and short-term planning and provides numerous benefits for the advanced team planning.

 

Team Panel Hierarchy 

Essentially, this is a Team Timeline, that provides users of ActivityTimeline with an extra level of flexibility when it comes to planning team’s work, as it allows to schedule work not only to individuals, but to the team as a whole.

There is a possibility to switch between 3 different options to use Team Panel: Users, Teams & Team with Users.


Visualization of the Teams’ Workflow 

For the planning on the high level for teams you may use Team mode, as it’s possible to select multiple teams at a time and plan for long periods like months or quarters ahead. Multi-functional workload indicator, provides an information about teams' available capacity and their current workload.

This mode is just perfect for high level planning for the department or even for the whole organisation, as it allows to schedule big chunks of workload, like Epics or Program Increments to the whole team without a need to allocate it to individual resources.

Down the Hierarchy: Advanced Planning for a Single Team

The second level mode of the Team Panel provides a better planning experience for a single team. In this mode user can see the overall plan for the whole team as well as work schedule of all the team members.

It is very convenient as it allows to combine long term plans with actual execution. Manager can see what Epics or Features his team is currently working on, and schedule related tasks to his/her team.

Timeline for Individual Resources 

Such timeline is pretty familiar for users as it is a classic view, where managers can plan & track work of their users. 

This mode is all about resource planning and proper visibility of who is doing what & when in your team. In this view, you can clearly see the workload of every individual as well as their availability for future periods.
