Explore your JIRA Time in Status Data with Power BI

Time in status reports helps to monitor overall project efficiency and particular data for some statuses or users in Jira. To get more advanced analysis, you can export reports to some analytical or Business Intelligence (BI) systems. One of them is Power BI. With time in status data from Jira, you’ll obtain an instant dashboard to assess workloads, see how quickly you're resolving issues, and see velocity over time. Power BI and Jira are great tools to connect.

What is the Time in Status in Jira and its value?

Time in Status data indicates how much time an issue has spent on each status, assignee, or project. For example, a task has spent 5 hours in progress. This data is essential when we’re evaluating how the planned numbers meet the actual ones.

 How can it help you?

  • Monitor team performance. Find out when an assignee started the work and when it’s finished.
  • Discover process blockage. With time spent in status, you can track if some issue is stuck “in progress”, “to do” or other columns.
  • Make data-driven decisions. Adjust your efforts on the go or make future decisions to improve team efficiency.

You can also track such metrics as cycle and lead time and average time in status for your project.

Benefits from analyzing time in status data in Power BI

Jira is your data-source bestie for managing projects, issues, and bugs tracking. Power BI is your mega-mind to create interactive reports and transform data into actionable insights. Connect Jira to Power BI , and you’ll get a perfect combo for skyrocketing your business.

Jira reports + Power BI = smart decisions for your team 📈

Microsoft Power BI is a modern business intelligence platform with over 5 million subscribers. That’s for a reason. Exporting time reports to external analytical tools allows you to examine the project's time in depth. You can change the formulas and generate a report for management that is easy to read.

Why connect Power BI to Jira time reports?

  • Project level. Managers can use Power BI dashboards to receive detailed project information at a glance. With detailed time spent data, it's possible to keep track of the project's progress and critical KPIs at all times, as well as respond rapidly to potential roadblocks.
  • Workflow level. If Jira issues are taking significantly longer than usual, for example, in Testing, you can analyze why so. It's possible that there aren't enough team members involved, or that the assignment is more complex than predicted, requiring higher priority.

Compare estimated and actual time through visualization. Adjust your efforts on the go or use them for future planning.
