Excel-works on Confluence!

If you use Excel in your daily work, put your Excel spreadsheets on Confluence.

Benefits of having an Excel spreadsheet in Confluence

  • You can put notes, procedures, and other explanations of your work in the spreadsheets

  • Relationships between spreadsheets can be represented by links between Confluence pages

In other words, you can import your business know-how built in Excel into Confluence.

Import Excel files as they are

If you want to import Excel files into your existing business, you will need a high level of Excel compatibility. Importing only numbers and formulas will not suffice.

For example, you need to be able to import

  • Charts and figures

  • Picture

  • It would be useful to be able to import print settings as well

As you can see from the Atlassian Marketplace's list of Confluence spreadsheet apps, there are not many apps that have these features in terms of Excel compatibility.

Among these, Excel-like Tables for Confluence is an app that focuses on importing existing Excel files as is. In addition, the imported data is saved in Confluence pages.

What about Google Sheets?

Google Sheets is a very powerful spreadsheet, and there are several apps for Confluence.

For the Cloud version, Jira Cloud for Google Sheets (Official), which is official and free, is well-known.

However, users who are not familiar with Google Sheets may be dissatisfied because of its different operability from Excel.

In addition, Permission settings in Google Sheets are different from those in Confluence, so it is necessary to change permission settings on the Google Sheets side, which can be troublesome.

On the other hand, an app like Excel-like Tables for Confluence is controlled by the view/edit permission of the Confluence page, so there is no need to bother.

Wrap up

With an app like Excel-like Tables for Confluence, you can manage spreadsheets, related information and view/edit permissions in one place, while maintaining the familiarity of Excel.

By the way, there is a Jira version for those who want to use Excel-like spreadsheets in Jira.

The following cases may be useful

  • When you want to manage Excel spreadsheets used in existing workflows as they are

  • When you want to refer to information in Jira on the spreadsheet side, or when you want Jira to reflect information in the spreadsheet
