Celebrating 10 Years on the Atlassian Marketplace

Ken Paetzold May 31, 2022

The Atlassian Marketplace is celebrating 10 years on May 31st, so we wanted to take a look back at how far the Marketplace and its Partners have come in the last decade.

Back in May 2012, Atlassian hosted their annual user conference, Summit, now known as Atlassian Team. And at this conference, they made a very exciting announcement introducing the Atlassian Marketplace, where people could go to choose from 60 different applications to enhance their experience with Atlassian tools.

Git Integration for Jira is extremely proud to have been one of the original 60 apps that listed on the Marketplace at its launch 10 years ago, and are extremely excited and grateful for the growth we’ve seen since, thanks in large part to our partnership with Atlassian.

As part of the celebration, Atlassian will be donating $5 back to the Raspberry Pi coding education organization for every app installed on the Marketplace on 5/31/22.

Need inspiration? Git Integration for Jira is the premier application for teams using Jira and Git. Reduce context switching and allow developers to stay in their coding environment and stay on track of software development in Jira.

Growth of the Atlassian Marketplace

Now, in May 2022, the Atlassian Marketplace now boasts over 5,300 apps and integrations from more than 1,250 Marketplace Partners, with average weekly app installs reaching 28,000 worldwide.

“The last 10 years have seen tremendous growth, innovation, and dedication from our developer and Marketplace Partner community, all in support of stronger app-powered teamwork,” says Maggie from the Atlassian team

How Has the Atlassian Marketplace Evolved?

With more applications being added to the Marketplace every day, the Atlassian team has implemented accreditations to help ensure customers find the products that meet their needs.

Cloud Fortified Apps

Cloud Fortified Apps is a program Atlassian rolled out designed to help larger customers, and those with “business-critical operating requirements”.

In order for an app to be considered Cloud Fortified, they need to meet a set of requirements related to security, reliability, and support related to enterprise readiness. Git Integration for Jira has maintained our Cloud Fortified for multiple years in a row.

Atlassian Marketplace Partner Program

The Atlassian Marketplace Partner Program distinguishes partners at three levels: Silver, Gold, and Platinum, with each level recognizing the partner’s dedication to and alignment with the Atlassian platform and strategy.

Each Marketplace Partner must meet eligibility requirements in Cloud and Data Center investments and Security.

Git Integration for Jira is proud to be an Atlassian Platinum Partner, meaning we have reached the highest levels in all categories including:

  • Response time to support queries is under 24 hours
  • Minimum $1M in gross annual sales in the Marketplace
  • All apps participate in the Atlassian Bug Bounty Program

How Have Atlassian Marketplace Partners Evolved?

Just as the Marketplace has evolved, so too have the applications and Partners. The Atlassian ecosystem has grown to welcome customers from organizations of all sizes, many with unique needs.

For many Partners, the challenge to meet these new customer expectations meant increasing efficiency and more focus on business strategies.

Moving to the Cloud

Moving to the cloud required Marketplace Partners to change the way they thought about app delivery and support, requiring new processes for running and maintaining applications.

Of course moving to the cloud also comes with some positive aspects, like faster customer feedback on new features. Git Integration for Jira Cloud is an example of how our product has evolved to meet growing ecosystem needs.

Adopting Automation

Automation is an important aspect of a competitive development workflow and strategy as it helps maximize productivity by limiting the time developers spend on menial tasks.

There are countless examples of applications in the Atlassian Marketplace that focus on automating common actions, like Automated Release Notes for Jira, which automates the process of creating and distributing release notes.

Git Integration for Jira is another example of a Marketplace app implementing features for automation, like utilizing Automation for Jira triggers. These triggers allow users to automatically create Jira issues when a commit is created or a pull request is assigned to them, in addition to automating other repetitive tasks.

Focus on Team Collaboration

Organizations across the globe have evolved rapidly in the last decade, particularly when it comes to a reliance on technology across departments. The use of Jira and other Atlassian tools has expanded from engineering and product management to marketing and executive leadership.

With these changes come the need for Marketplace Partners to provide more features designed specifically for team collaboration.

Git Integration for Jira has always been designed for team collaboration across departments. This tool is built to enable developers to update Jira directly from their coding environment while providing valuable project insight, like pull requests status, branches, and commits, to project admins in Jira in a way they clearly understand.

More Integrations

Of course, Marketplace Partners have always integrated with Atlassian tools like Jira and Bitbucket, but in the last 10 years, we’ve seen more applications that integrate with other tools on the Marketplace, or different developer tools like GitHub.

Git Integration for Jira connects with repositories on GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps, and more, and integrates with tools like GitKraken Client to give developers the ability to perform multiple actions on Jira issues from a single commit using Smart Commits. Deep linking with GitKraken Client gives teams fast access to commits, branches, and tags from the Jira issue view.

Ready for the Next 10 Years of the Atlassian Marketplace

If the last 10 years tell us anything, Marketplace Partners should be prepared for continued evolution and excitement. It’s hard to say what the future will bring, but some predictions include more automation, a heavy focus on DevOps and streamlining workflows, evolving needs for global teams working remotely, and an expansion of high-tech tools and processes across organizations.

We’re ready for 10 more great years as an Atlassian Marketplace partner and look forward to seeing what’s to come for this incredible community!

And don’t forget: as part of the 10-year celebration, Atlassian is donating $5 back to the Raspberry Pi coding education organization for every app installed on the Marketplace on 5/31/22! So do your part and head over to marketplace.atlassian.com and find a new tool to optimize your workflow!
