Aligning Insight - Asset Management releases with Jira Service Management Data Center

TL;DR

  • The latest version of the Insight - Asset Management marketplace app and import apps will now be released every ~6 weeks in line with Jira Service Management Data Center.

  • This is a change from the previous ad hoc release schedule of Mindville apps.

  • This update will provide predictable release timelines, ensure that all Data Center customers have access to the latest bug fixes and improvements at the same time, and allow for more robust testing with the goal of providing higher quality and more stable apps.

  • Security fixes in the bundled Insight app will be backported to Jira Service Management versions as per Atlassian’s Security Bugfix Policy.


Mindville and their much loved asset and configuration management apps joined the Atlassian family in July 2020. Since then, the Jira Service Management Data Center (JSM DC) team has bundled the Insight - Asset Management app with versions 4.15+. We also continue to maintain the now free Insight - Asset Management marketplace app for our customers who are yet to upgrade to modern versions of JSM DC.

As a part of the ongoing integration of the Mindville apps with Atlassian teams and products, we will be aligning the release schedule of the Insight - Asset Management marketplace app and related import apps (including Insight Discovery) with JSM DC. This will begin with the upcoming 4.18 version, currently scheduled for public release in early July 2021.

JSM DC is typically released on a 6 week cycle, which involves:

  • A major release (feature) every 6 weeks (e.g. JSM DC 4.X)

  • A minor release (bugfix) approximately 4 weeks later (e.g. JSM DC 4.X.Y)

Security fixes in the bundled Insight app will be backported to JSM versions as per Atlassian’s Security Bugfix Policy.

Please note that a new app version will not be released when the respective app has not received an update within a 6 week cycle.

We understand that this is a shift from the previous Mindville app release process, where apps were released on an ad hoc schedule when bug fixes were completed. This meant that customers received bug fixes sooner, however it came at the cost of some of the rigorous quality and testing processes that we are accustomed to applying to Atlassian’s core products.

By aligning the release schedule of the Mindville apps with JSM DC we will raise the quality bar for the apps and plan to provide more stable and reliable releases for our customers. This will also ensure that our customers have access to the latest bug fixes and improvements regardless of whether they are using the marketplace app or bundled JSM DC versions.

We would encourage customers to upgrade to modern versions of Jira Service Management where you will benefit from the latest functionality and improvements out-of-the-box.
