Haha, you are asking Atlassian community, what is better, Jira, or ...

If we try to forget where we are:

1. Purpose and Focus:

  • Jira: Jira is primarily focused on issue tracking, project management, and agile development methodologies. As already noted by respected members of the community, it offers extensive customization options, making it suitable for various types of projects and teams.
  • Azure DevOps: Azure DevOps, formerly known as Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS), is a comprehensive platform that covers the entire software development lifecycle. It provides tools for version control, project planning, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), and more.

2. Integration and Ecosystem:

  • Jira: Jira has a robust ecosystem with numerous third-party integrations, plugins, and add-ons (thousands of them). It seamlessly integrates with various tools, enabling teams to enhance their workflows and incorporate additional functionalities.
  • Azure DevOps: Azure DevOps is tightly integrated with other Microsoft services, such as Azure cloud, Visual Studio IDE, and Microsoft Teams. It offers a unified and cohesive development environment for Microsoft-centric projects.

3. Version Control:

  • Jira: Jira does not provide built-in version control features. Instead, it integrates with external version control systems like Git or SVN, allowing teams to link issues to code repositories and track code changes.
  • Azure DevOps: Azure DevOps includes its own version control system called Azure Repos. It supports both Git and Team Foundation Version Control (TFVC), providing teams with an integrated and scalable solution for source code management.

4. CI/CD Capabilities:

  • Jira: Jira does not have native CI/CD capabilities. However, it integrates with various CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Bamboo, or Azure Pipelines, allowing teams to automate their build and deployment processes.
  • Azure DevOps: Azure DevOps offers a comprehensive set of built-in CI/CD tools, including Azure Pipelines. It enables teams to create, configure, and manage their pipelines directly within the platform, supporting continuous integration, delivery, and deployment.

5. Pricing and Deployment Options:

  • Jira: Jira is available as both a cloud-based service (Jira Cloud) and a self-hosted solution (Jira Server). The pricing structure varies depending on the deployment option and the number of users.
  • Azure DevOps: Azure DevOps is a cloud-based service provided by Microsoft. It offers flexible pricing options, including free tiers for small teams and tiered plans based on user count and usage requirements.

Ultimately, the choice between Jira and Azure DevOps depends on the specific needs and preferences of your development team. Consider factors such as project requirements, development methodologies, integration possibilities, and familiarity with the respective tools when making your decision.

Hi @ADEEL AHMED ,

I hope you are doing well!!

Well, I have experience on both tools but personally I like Jira as customisation is very easy while in Azure Devops it seem little complicated.

I think they are specific templates that you need to follow or use but in Jira you can completely customise as per your requirement and Atlassian marketplace support 1000+ different plugins which really extends the functionality of Jira.

Mayur

It depends.

The two systems differ vastly and do not cover the same aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle. Jira is best of breed in PM, and issue/defect tracking while ADO is a good enough platform with top-notch cloud vendor lock-in.

yeah I agree with you As Jira provides very vast functionalities to handle the projects and tracking of issues.

I have a fair amount of experience in both systems and have to say that I enjoy working in both. What I find is critical is letting teams use the systems that they want as the practice is far more important than the tool. Using connectors to ensure data is shared between systems if your teams use both is critical to ensure high level planning can be done effectively.

Hi @ADEEL AHMED ,

Personally I believe Jira is the best tool. It's very flexible so it can adapt to many use cases, and it integrates easily with so many other tools. Atlassian keeps bringing innovative features and products, and the supporting community is large and very engaged. But this is a personal opinion. I'd recommend to try different tools and evaluate which one fits your processes, your budget and team culture the best. Good luck!

Hi @ADEEL AHMED

Considering this is an Atlassian Community forum, I think you already know the answer you'll get :-)

But on a serious note, it really depends on your team, their level of experience with either platforms and your needs.

KR,

Ash

Yeah, but I need a solid comparison and difference in between both of them.
