Is it possible to have different workflow for different issue type? I would like different issue types to have different possible status.

absolutely. that is in fact often used. Semantically, you associate issuetypes to a single workflow. the relationship of WF:Issuetype is 1:N.

now i would caution you not to go to crazy with this. keep your WFs as simple as possible especially at first and then carve off an issuetype when you really need to do something different. Just MO.
