Why are Jira dashboard chart gadgets so rigid?

Why is there a need to create such incredibly specific chart gadgets in Jira dashboards? Why can't there just be customisable charts like Excel, SAS Visual Analytics, etc? That way, if I want a CFD for a specific customer I can just create it with an area chart of count-by-status filtered by Customer. If I want to see average age over time I can create it with a simple line chart on age. I can create most of the chart gadgets, without having to find a very specific and limited gadget. It should be far more generic and flexible. I find the reporting aspect of Jira unnecessarily inflexible.

Hi @Lachlan Macnish ,

This was a frustration that I had a few years ago which eventually inspired me to create Custom Charts for Jira.

It's an easy to use dashboard gadget reporting tool that can be combined with the Simple Search gadget to dynamically filter data on multiple charts.

You can check it out right now on our interactive app playground to see if it's something that might be useful to you.

Please ignore this comment if you weren't looking for an add-on suggestion, I just wanted to share my thoughts and my solution to your problem.

Kind regards,

Tom
