Is Forge brittle?

Edited

I am experiencing at least my 2nd unexpected Forge outage.  The first time - Atlassian support started off thinking it was a problem with my app.  I am beginning to believe Forge is brittle and should not be trusted.  Does anyone else feel this way?

Actually, no.  We've had a lot of problems with Forge, but they've all fallen into one of three categories

  • Outage that Atlassian announced
  • It doesn't support what we're trying to do
  • Our app is doing something Forge isn't really for (that's a bit entwined with #2 - another way to put it might be "we're trying to push Forge too far, too fast")

I don't think Forge is "Brittle" itself, I think it's more about people trying to push it further than it can really go.  Maybe it would be better to say "the combination of application and the forge platform can be brittle"

Nic - I would like to agree with your statement 'I don't think Forge is "Brittle"' - but now I am being convinced that Atlassian has a service which is brittle. My Forge Apps are very basic stuff - simply present the users with a choice of dynamic options to select and then display their choice. However today - my Forge Apps which functioned wonderfully yesterday are all "broken" with the error "Unexpected error in app".   To address your 3 categories:

  • Outage that Atlassian announced
    • Altassian has yet to announce the "outage" - even though I twice reported the problem 6 hours ago.  Also, I have only received an automated reply to my request - "Just confirming that we got your request. We're on it."
  • It doesn't support what we're trying to do or Our app is doing something Forge isn't really for (that's a bit entwined with #2 - another way to put it might be "we're trying to push Forge too far, too fast") [I combined these two - I don't see the difference in them]
    • My apps are as basic and simple as you can create.

How can we depend on a service that can go down in the middle of a business day with very little support?
