How do I automate this?

I'm new to using the automation rules and was wondering how do I create something along the lines of, if the tittle contains _____ assign ticket to ______

Hey! This should be pretty easy to do. Just follow these steps:

  1. Go to your "project settings" and then "automation"
  2. Click on "create rule"
  3. Choose the trigger as "issue created" or "issue edited"
  4. Use "issue fields" as the if condition
  5. Select "Summary" and then choose "contains" as the operator
  6. Enter text that you want to match
  7. click on "add action" and choose "Assign issue"
  8. Select the user or group
  9. provide a name for your rule
  10. click "turn it on" to activate

Thank you for walking me through that like a first grader! A lot of the articles seem to be outdated and couldn't find the right parameters.

How would I go about adding more then one word in the "contains" field? 
For example I would like the rule to trigger if it sees any of the following words: Apple, Banana, orange. 

I was hoping I could add a comma to separate the words but no dice there. I assume there must be a different way to do it.

No problem!


For your second question, I think you'd just add on another summary and contains operator for different words but would need to use some if condition to make sure it does it for 1 word or all 3 words.

Hi @David 

That seems like a straightforward scenario...when do you want this check / assignment to happen?

  • when an issue is created
  • when the Summary is updated
  • etc.

Knowing that will help you select the correct "trigger" to run your rule.
