What can we learn?

A Jira project can have a single workflow or multiple workflows. The first diagram shows one workflow in a workflow scheme. This one to one relationship means all issue types in the project share the same workflow. This is the simplest of all the possibilities.

Multiple workflows

A Jira project can also have multiple workflows. The second diagram shows one workflow per issue type. This means the task workflow can have a specific number of steps, but the sub-task workflow can be different (and often simpler).

Additionally, some issue types can use one workflow while other issue types use another. The third diagram shows that task and sub-task share the same workflow and contract has a different workflow.

Workflow schemes give you the flexibility to develop the workflow to issue type mapping any way you’d like.

Note: A Jira project can only have one workflow scheme.
