I am currently planning to migrate a clients Jira Service Management DC instance to the cloud. They have a Jira Cloud instance that already exists and we will migrate JSM to the same org/site (acme.atlassian.net).
One of my main concerns is that whenever we migrate JSM to the cloud, somehow this will affect the Jira Cloud instance that is already there. I know that it will not cause any downtime for Jira Cloud, but I am wondering if any configuration, scheme, or anything like that will be impacted.
Is this true?
If so, is there any documentation that explains what could be impacted?
Any suggestions/advice to keep in mind when migrating JSM?
Check this guide: https://www.atlassian.com/migration/plan/cloud-guide
If you search on Google, you’ll find that many Solution Partners provide guidance on migrations (like documentation with screenshots) and offer assistance.
Always cosider:
Make sure to prepare your instance before migration - cleanup is essential!

Years ago, during my migration experience, we migrated everything along with just a few projects. In the end, 95% of the configuration was useless, because we didn’t properly prepare. Lesson learned!
Hey Lucas,
I appreciate the link and information. This is definitely something I have reviewed and studied.
I will make sure to keep this in mind while we continue to plan and prep the migration.
But again, I just dont know from the documentation if JSM migrating over will mess with Jira configurations in anyway.
I highly doubt it will but I just wanted to ask the community to just double check.
We are only migrating the data over to keep as historical references since they technically want to start in the cloud with JSM from 0.
