Why are random customers are showing up under Collaborators? What does this give them access to? I believe it means they can see Internal comments on issues? Why are some seemingly random people showing up there?
The default is that customers added via People > Customers get given a an account but are not put into the jira-users group. (Rather confusing that you can have a user that isn't a user, I know!)
Perhaps someone changed the default on your site? I don't know where a setting that would specify a default group given to customers. You certainly don't want them in jira-users.
Right, exactly. I'll look for that setting and post back here if I find it.

On the People Collaborators page, under Actions for these particular users, is the Revoke Access option disabled?
If so, it should say what permissions that user has that results in them having Collaborator access to the Service Desk.

We have created a few users via the Customers tab in Service Desk. I did not realize that was adding the users to the jira-users group! We did not want them in that group. Apparently Collaborators will show any jira-users that are not Service Desk agents (which makes sense considering the role of the Collaborator inside an organization). Is there a way to add a Customer in SD and not have them added to the jira-users group? There probably is but I haven't looked yet.

Are you creating customers as users in JIRA and putting them into the jira-users group?
