Dear Team,
We have JIRA Service Desk trial version and we were doing poc and facing issue while configuring the IMAP server, User name and password. We have generic email box and I am having access to it. In email address field I am entering "genericemailid" and my credentials in user name and password. Port set to 143.

Error
Unfortunately JIRA couldn't connect to the mail server. Here is what the mail server said: "AUTHENTICATE failed."

The error is exactly what it says on the tin - you've almost certainly given JIRA incorrect details to connect to the mail server. If it's not that, then your mail server has not been configured to allow that user to use it.
Check your credentials and try it again.
It might happen if you are using shared mail box.
