In claiming domain, does it have to be the organization's root domain?

Our company's domain is xxx.edu, however we are sub organization that will have our own subscription to Atlassian products for our ITSM use using Jira Service Management.  Our organization has SAML/SSO and would like to use it for our JSM environment.  In order to do so I need to subscribe to Atlassian Access which requires us to claim our domain with Atlassian.

Can I claim our sub org's url of:

xxx.unm.edu/[suborg address and entry to our JSM help portal]

Or does it have to be at the root domain address in order to facilitate the SSO infrastructure of our organization?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Ray Avila

Based on this answer, it appears each sub-domain needs to be claimed separately - so it should be possible to have them on separate Access accounts.
