Our service desk needs to be able to send emails to external contacts from jira service management. Is there any native functionality for this?
If so, can it be done with standard plan or is premium plan needed?
The only solution I can find is to create an automation rule but after testing this I found it to be a really bad workaround so I'm looking for a proper system function.
If you are open to using 3rd-party applications for it, then our app our app Notification Assistant for Jira can help you with this.
It comes with a feature called "Send email from issue" that enables ad hoc email sending from within Jira issues to direct email addresses.
Feel free to reach out.
thank you but we are looking for something to be included in either standard or premium subscription plans

Hi @Henric Strömgren ,
Welcome to the community !!
Create an user account with the required external email address. Add this user as default watcher or request participant.
Add this user in required events of the project notification scheme. Based on the actions, email will be sent to external address

Sorry for not being clear enough of our needs, our service desk agents need to be able to input any email address of there choice, regardless if the email address is setup before hand as a user account or not.
there will frequently be new external email addresses and we should never have to input them into jire before hand as the agents likely will not know about the address before they have the need to send email to it.
is this achievable or not?
