Cannot create an automation to create a ticket in Product Discovery

I am trying to create a very simple automation - Ehen the status of a Jira Service management support ticket is change to "Waiting for Support" an 'Idea' type ticket should be created in my JIRA product discovery project. 

JIRA is not letting me set this rule and asks me to select a valid project.

When I select " same type as the issue" it lets me save the automation but then the automation fails cause the support type does not exist in JIRA product discovery.

What can I do?

Hi @Hrithu Olickel and welcome to the Community!

There's a couple of things to keep in mind here:

  • Jira Product Discovery is based on team managed projects, which means its issue types are unique to each project. So indeed, creating same type as the issue can't work since you're trying to create an issue across different projects.
  • Make sure that in your automation rule details the scope of your rule includes both projects: the JSM and the JPD project. If it is restricted to just a single project, then it won't be able to trigger actions in another project.
  • Make sure to set all required fields to create an idea in the JPD project and that the user (most likely the built-in automation account) has the necessary permissions to create issues there.

If that does not help, do share the exact error you are getting ...

Thank you Walter. I checked the above and in the process realised I had not given permission to any other parties other than myself to create issues in the discovery project. 

Once I changed it to anyone can create issues, the error was solved.
