We are entertaining the idea of using AssetIT to serve as a way to inventory our IT assets and to allow various assets to be "checked-in" and "checked-out". Much of what we have in mind appear to be accomplished by AssetIT. However, after doing research there are still 2 issues we are unsure about:
Non-Jira users being able to view assets and submit requests for checkouts
The ability to create bundles/kits made up of other assets within the inventory
Can you please explain whether each of these can issues can be addressed?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Hi @Elston, Jonathan and thank you for your interest in AssetIT 😊.
I understand your concerns, and I’d like to offer some ideas that may address them effectively:
Since AssetIT is a third-party plugin for Jira, it adheres to Atlassian's licensing policies, which can limit access for non-Jira users. However, this tight integration is also beneficial for teams already using Jira products, as it ensures seamless compatibility across all Jira platforms.
Potential Solution:
AssetIT integrates smoothly with Jira Service Management, which allows non-Jira users, referred to as "Customers," to submit asset requests through the Support Desk. This approach provides a way for non-Jira users to request asset checkouts, licenses, accessories, or other items without needing direct access to the Jira platform. Once a request is submitted, the internal team can handle it as usual by assigning assets, booking items, and managing checkouts. This setup could potentially address your concern by enabling non-Jira users to interact with the system indirectly through a ticketing mechanism.
You can refer to this use case video to see how it works: AssetIT x JSM Use Case
AssetIT includes a feature called "Pre-defined Kit," which enables the creation of asset bundles that can include various items such as accessories, licenses, components, and consumables. These kits can be checked out to users as a single unit, streamlining the checkout process for complex asset groups.
Additional Capabilities:
AssetIT also supports automated kit checkouts for new entries. For example, when a new employee joins your organization, the system can automatically assign a predefined kit of essential items to them. This automation can be activated or deactivated based on your preferences, offering flexibility to tailor the process to your organization's needs. This feature can be particularly useful for onboarding or any standardized provisioning process, ensuring that all necessary assets are assigned consistently.
I hope these will help, and looking forward to your insights 😊.
