Timeline view doesn't like side by side tickets

Timeline view keeps pushing all of my tickets to be on seperate lines.
I'm trying to have a lot of my tickets side by side (horizontally) so I can better see in one view what's happening.

However, sometimes when I add a new ticket, it throws off the whole page and every ticket then has it's own individual row. This results in all of the tickets being shifted down the page and it's really difficult to track what's happening.

Hi @Mike Reading we think we found out what's going on, can you help me confirm?

This happens if you are a user that does not have the "manage views" permission. Can you please ask your project admin if that's the case for you?

(in any case that part is a bug, we'll fix it)

I've got the manage view permission, and this still occurs for me if I move any cards around while there is a filter applied. The cards remain in their column but are at random heights still. This is no longer an issue for me though as I am utilising the use of the sort functions :)

Hi @Tanguy Crusson I'm having the same issue, is there any way you can share the timeline for the fix? 🙏

Antoine DELORME December 6, 2024

@Tanguy Crusson can you tell us if the issue is solved ? It's quite impacting having such bad views.

@Antoine DELORME could you share a screenshot or screen recording of what you're seeing at tcrusson@atlassian.com? This should be fixed already, but i'd like to check your configuration to be sure. Thanks!

Hi @Tanguy Crusson

I am having the issue as well where we cannot get the cards side by side. Any help would be appreciated!

@Kevin James are you using "sort" on the view?

Update: we've identified a new issue with this functionality that can lead to this happening! (thanks for raising this!). We're working on a fix.

Edit: nope, we actually haven't managed to reproduce is when sorting is off 🤔 - if it's happening in your views with sorting off, please let us know!

Hello,

I’m experiencing the same issue. No matter what I try, I can’t get ideas to be displayed side by side. Instead, each idea gets its own separate row, even though there’s a lot of empty space. This makes the timeline less effective for presenting the roadmap. Has anyone found a way to fix this?

Hi, that's because you are sorting by these fields. Just delete these 2 sort options and you can put ideas in the same row

Hi, thanks for the quick response.

You’re right .... I read about this in another post on the forum, but when I tried dragging ideas vertically it didn’t work. Now I see why - because I had sorting enabled.

Do you plan to introduce an option in the future to choose whether sorted ideas should be arranged this way or placed in separate rows? Similar to how you added an option for the Card layout.

Honestly I have no idea how that would work and what "sorting" would mean in this case 🤔

I agree it's confusing though! many users got caught by this today.
