Options for default assignee

Hi community,

When anyone is creating a Jira ticket, the ticket is usually assigned to the project leader or remains unassigned.

This setting is controlled in the Default assignee configuration - screenshot below.

My question is: is it possible to auto-assign a new ticket to the creator of the ticket?

Rationale: Often, someone creates a new ticket but has not fleshed it out fully -- I would like the ticket to remain in that individual's name till they have added a full-fledged description.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Chiranth

Hi @Chiranth, no need to move the post :)

You can use Jira automation to achieve what you want. It is a very simple automation rule. Please follow the steps below.

1. Go to Project settings (in the left navigation) > Automation

2. Create new automation rule e.g. "Assign issue to reporter"

3. Configure the rule:

  • When issue created
  • Choose field to set Assignee
  • Select "Issue reporter" from the drop down. This will set the Assignee to the Issue reporter upon issue creation.

Just remember that Jira Automations sometimes takes a few seconds to execute.

Just realized I've posted this in the wrong forum.  This is a Jira question, not a JPD question.

I can't seem to be able to "move" this question to the appropriate forum though.  Can anyone help me here please?
