How can I create a workflow for ideas in JPD?

Liam Weston August 14, 2024

Hi Community,

I'm evaluating JPD as the tool to facilitate the management of change requests through a CCB process. This process has the following statuses:

  • New Demand
  • Evaluation
  • CCB Assessment
  • Global Prioritisation
  • Approved Demand

We are currently managing this on a Kanban board in a Jira software project with columns mapped to statuses.

  1. Is there a way to create a view in JPD with columns mapped to statuses, displaying ideas in the relevant column?
  2. Or can Idea ticket types be included on a kanban board in Jira software?

I'd appreciate any thoughts or experiences you can share.

Thanks!

Hi,

You could create a new field of type Select and call it e.g. CCB with the statuses you mentioned. Then you create a new view in JPD of type Board and use the field CCB as columns.

But I would also recommend exploring the Workflow feature under Project settings. Then you get a proper workflow that is easy to showcase and enables restrictions (same as workflows for e.g. company managed project). The JPD view of type board will then map columns to the native field Status instead of the CCB field.

Thanks Joachim I will explore those suggestions.

Hi @Liam Weston ,

This should be possible with JPD as well. You can create a board view that groups by the status(es) of your ideas. For example:

Important to note - JPD projects are team-managed and each project manages its own workflow - so these statuses would need to be added into the project's workflow in order to meet this use case.

We've also been working on a handbook to explain how to approach the implementation of the tool and the ways of working that come with it. You can see it here: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Product-Discovery-articles/Preview-of-the-new-Jira-Product-Discovery-handbook/ba-p/2784396
