Default values for fields

Is there a way to make default values for fields when new ideas are created? Its a pain to manage all fields manually.

For example with respect to the roadmap board. It would be great if all new ideas started with the 'next' value for the roadmap property so its easy to immediately see a backlog here

Hello!

It is not possible to define default values for new ideas.

Indeed with Automation, you can set up a field value when creating an idea

However, please note this rule might override what could be considered as default values set from a view.

To take back the example of the roadmap, when you create ideas from this view and in a specific column, the value for this column will apply to the newly created idea before this automation rule is performed. So let's say you create an idea in the "Now" column, it will take the value "Now" for the roadmap field, and then this automation rule will override this field and replace it with "Next".

So you can choose one or the other strategy when creating ideas, or you create them directly in the right column of the board, or you decide that you create ideas from the "All ideas" view for example, hence this field isn't automatically set up by the view.

I hope it helps,

Cheers,

Hermance

Great points thanks for the help!

Perhaps project Automations should hopefully be able to accomplish that.
