Performance issues for the past couple of days

Some customers have been facing performance problems over the past couple of days.

Symptoms include: 

  • The UI freezes for a few seconds when opening ideas or switching between different ideas 
  • When closing the right sidebar with an idea, it may take a few seconds before being able to interact with fields on the view

We have found the root cause of the problem and implemented a fix - something was making the CPU shoot up to 100% for a bit - but it make take a bit more time before it reaches production. We're on it!

Update on 9 December:

The issue should be fixed now. 

Update on 6 December:

The fix has made its way to production but not yet released on some AWS regions. We expect it to be fully rolled out by Monday.

Update on 5 December:

we've been working on this for the past couple of days and found the root cause for this behaviour. Ironically, it was linked to a new library we're using to track UI performance metrics across Jira 🤨

Today's update: 

  • Most of JPD should be back to normal between today and tomorrow
  • With the exception of the status field which may still play up and now we're focusing on that. The screen may still hang a bit when you try to update its value
  • While investigating all this we identified areas where we can improve performance further (the app gets re-rendered fully on some operations instead of changing just a part of the screen). We will fix that.

Interesting. I'm not having these issues with Product Discovery, but with Jira.

Thanks for the update. Actually I experience in overall Jira (not related to different project types) performance issues. Opening Issues e.g. takes quite long. 

 

The behaviour is pretty bad in chrome, if I switch to safari it gets better. (quite confusing actually)

Thanks for the update. Experienced this a bit yesterday, with Jira Discovery. There was a delay of a few seconds and on several occasions I received a Chrome warning offering me to "Kill" the process or "Wait".

Yes, I've experienced lags in click responsiveness in JPD yesterday 12/2/24 and today 12/3/24. Click, wait, then the men option appears. Select, wait, it's applied ... etc.

Hi,

Just curious; can JPD problems like this can trigger action in Atlassian's Status Page system, which is where we go for info on disruptive problems.

 

We're seeing warnings about the performance problem in JPD.

"The UI freezes for a few seconds" is a stretch, I've waited a minute for some Jira pages to load today on a newish M3 MBP.

Why is this not on https://status.atlassian.com/ ?

@Tanguy Crusson I am still experiencing the issue.  When I attempt to change status of an item in the Discovery project I get the following errors: 

  • This page isn't responding
  • Reload Site? Changes you made may not be saved.

Okay - we shipped changes today which seem to have improve it for quite a few customers, but it looks like it's not enough. @Jonathan Rue - Consultant would you mind doing the following?

  • In Jira product discovery
  • left sidebar > give feedback
  • select "get help from the support team"
  • paste the following: 

"Tanguy Crusson from the JPD team asked me to create this support ticket so the team can investigate a performance problem we're facing in the tool today - he told me they'd need access to our site to figure out what the problem is"

If you can do that we can run specific tests in your site and get to the bottom of this. If you do that, please let me know and I'll chase it up with the support team 🙏
