Hi Team,

we have usually release, unreleased & Archive version available in release section.

we have "fix version" field in Jira, but while creating new jira card under fix version dropdown it showing all versions including "release, unreleased". we would like to see only "unreleased" versions only to avoid the by picking release version mistakenly.

is there any way to hide/block release versions from fix version dropdown ?

I don't think Jira has this kind of option to filter the versions, at best, if you archive a released version, then it should no longer be suggested as an option.

Alternatively you could achieve this with either javascript (added to a field's description in field configuration), or via plugins allowing to modify issue forms (such as from this post https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-questions/How-to-hide-released-versions/qaq-p/2248566).

Either of those is up to you, but as a personal recommendation, avoid javascript, because it can easily become a nightmare later down the line when it spreads and nobody knows where to find it and how to fix it.

Hi @Radek Dostál,

Thanks for your reply. we checked the solution which mentioned above using scrip runner. But we are not using this plugin.

yes, "Archive' a Release is the work around CURRENTLY used to block people from adding Jira to that Release.

However, there is side effect that the 'Archive' Release is disappeared from all reports in Jira. Instead of 'Archive', can we setup rule by using automation to block people from adding Jira to that Release or something else.

Thanks.
