Hello,
Does work items(stories or epics) in Kanban boards in Jira Align tie back to Jira work items(stories or epics)?
In other words, does the Jira existing story imported to Jira Align kanban board gets impacted in Jira when I change the status or details of the story in Jira Align kanban board?
We are trying to understand more on how kanban boards interact with Jira. Kindly help us understand better.
Thank you.
The Backlog Kanban boards found in Jira Align are based on the Jira Align State or the Jira Align Process Step (if enabled and configured). The States and Process Steps are mapped with the Statuses in the Jira Workflow. If the configuration of the Jira connector is set to sync stories or epics bi-directionally, then yes, updating one of these work items in Jira Align will in turn update the Status in Jira. Since teams mostly manage their work in Jira, it is not uncommon to see at the story level where only a uni-directional sync from Jira to Jira Align is configured in the Jira connector. In that case, if you made an update to a story in Jira Align, it would not sync over to Jira. If you are not the Jira Align Admin, you would need to check with your JA Admin to know if bi-directional syncing is supported. When the following is set to "Yes", updates made in either tool with back to the other. When the following is set to "No", then updates made in Jira Align will not sync to Jira. It is possible for these to be set differently.
Based on your elaboration of your question, basically, if you've synchronized your team's work to Jira Align as a Kanban board, then yes, if you make changes to status, the changes should appear on Jira.
Field changes depend on whether there is a valid mapping between Jira and Jira Align and if the field synchronization is bidirectional (some fields aren't)
Details on the synchronization between Jira and Jira Align are here: https://help.jiraalign.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000088393-10X-Jira-Data-Synchronization
Hope this helps!
