Hi all, wondering if anyone can help on two Jira Align questions. First, on the Epic/Initiative input screen, is there any way to make type and description not required?
Second, in the Epic/Initiative details, is there a way to hide the tabs we don’t want to use?
Appreciate any help!
@GregPearson The Description and Type fields that you have called out in your screenshot cannot be made "not required". For the various work items in Jira Align, there are some fields that the system requires by default. The two you are pointing out along with the Program and State fields are required by the system and cannot be changed. Those fields are system required fields on almost all work items.
Where Allan directed you contains the list of attributes that can be displayed/hidden and required/not required.
For the second part of your question, it is possible to hide the tabs. This is controlled by the permissions in the System Roles. That means that if you have multiple System Roles that can view Epics, you would need to modify each role. You can do this by following the path of Admin > Roles > select system role in dropdown > expand Portfolio. Under the Manage section is a listing for Epics. You should be able to scroll to the right to view all of the tabs. You can select to toggle off to not display the tabs called out in your screenshot.
Here's an example from one of my instances where these tabs are turned off.
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
I do think that if Type is required and can not be changed then Help needs a better description of the options in that pull-down. Type is not very intuitive to most people.

Yes. The fields can be made optional (or even hidden) on a Portfolio by Portfolio basis. The tabs can be turned on/off on a system Role basis. You will need an Admin to set that up for you.

I am the admin for my company. I was able to find the tab settings in the role based administration, thanks! Definitely not where I thought to look.
For the optional fields, when I go into the settings for the details tab, I see a lot of other fields listed that I can toggle on or off but not type or description. This is what I see:
