Custom Fields for Dependencies - Timing

Hi All,

Out of curiosity and to gather some clear data for effort, what would you estimate the time it takes to add Custom Fields to a Dependency card?
Specifically 1 DropDown field and 2 Text Input fields.

Also, do you forsee significant testing needed?

Hi Drake,

Just looking at the technical implementation, this task would be something rather minor and done quite quickly. The discussion about how those fields should be named and/or what the options of the select field should be will probably take much longer.

Implementing custom fields in Jira Align is a minor change with very low technical risk. The amount of testing & validation needed for this change depends mostly on how your organization rolls out configuration changes in Jira Align.

However, when using custom fields in Jira Align please be aware of some aspects of this functionality (please see Jira Align help for more details):

  • custom fields will be available for usage in the entire application while visibility and required-setting can be modified on a portfolio level
  • the amount of certain types of custom fields in Jira Align is limited
  • custom fields are displayed on individual work items, objects, dependencies and risks detail view and can not be displayed in most reports (if you would like to report on custom fields, you need Enterprise Insights)

Have a great day!

That's what I figured, thanks for the corroboration!
