You spoke, we listened: an update on Jira Align's new navigation rollout

Hi all,

In our previous update, we shared our commitment to supporting those who are in the process of rolling out Jira Align’s New Navigation, and proactively solicited feedback to help make this as easy as possible.

Upon listening to your valuable feedback, we prioritized a number of enhancements to the New Navigation experience (more on that below) and extended the timeline of the roll-out so that you have more time to adopt the new experience and update custom enablement materials.

Based on your feedback, the toggle between the old and new navigation experiences will be available to users until the 10.131.0 release on March 15, 2024 (for most of you, this means your production environments will have the toggle available until the 10.131.2 release on March 29, 2024).

Remaining rollout phases/timeline

Previously, we kicked off an admin-controlled opt-in phase in July 2023 and planned to remove the old navigation experience in December 2023. As previously mentioned, we have decided to give you more time to adopt the new experience and update custom enablement materials. If you’re a customer who reached out to us asking for more time, you can count on the old navigation experience being available until the 10.131.0 release on March 15, 2024.

However, we also have customers who have reached out to us asking to proceed with the New Navigation rollout, and customers whose users have already adopted the New Navigation experience. To support those customers, in January 2024, we’ll begin rolling out the removal of the old navigation experience. We’ll send admins of those accounts direct communication, and set up in-product messaging for users at least one month prior to the rollout. The rollout to all customers will take several months to complete. If you’re an existing customer and would like to remove the old navigation experience early, please reach out to our support team or your advisory services representative and we can coordinate that with you.

Lastly, starting in January 2024, all new Jira Align customers will have only the new navigation experience.

Improving New Navigation

Based on your feedback about the parity between the old and new navigation experiences and opportunities to improve the new experience, we’re planning the following:

Planned for December 2023

  1. Updates to enterprise menus and global views of roadmaps and backlog:

    1. The strategic snapshot selection will be removed from the enterprise menu. Clicking enterprise will open the strategy room as it does today, but the snapshot selection will now be an in-page filter (as well as on the strategic backlog and strategy tree).

    2. Roadmaps will be added to the sidebar menu.

    3. The strategic snapshot filter in the sidebar menu will be replaced with the release filter. This will allow you to filter for global views in the backlog and roadmaps.

  2. Updates to backlog - a multi-program filter will be available on the program backlog, allowing you to view multiple backlog list or kanban views at the same time (multi-solution views will follow).

  3. Updates to sidebar menus - those will be updated to make pages and reports more intuitively discoverable, such as making items listed based on the type and hierarchy level (e.g. themes, epics, capabilities, features, etc., and program increments, sprints, releases, etc.), and making sure that reports are listed in alphabetical order.

Planned for January-March 2024

  1. Updates to the backlog: multi-solution filters will be available on the solution backlogs, allowing you to view multiple backlog list or kanban views at the same time.

  2. Updates to custom rooms: portfolio, solution, and program filters will be added to custom rooms.

Planned for after the new navigation rollout is complete

  1. We will be introducing a new team hierarchy menu to help users find teams in the context of other teams. We're still working through the details of this improvement so it won't be introduced before removing the old navigation experience, but we wanted to give everyone an early preview of where we're headed next.

We will continue prioritizing New Navigation-related bugs and issues. As always, we’ll leave comments on the tickets if and when we close a bug for these reasons. You can follow our release notes to stay up to date on what we’re fixing, changing, and adding with each release.

New Navigation: available training and help resources

We understand that updating training materials is a considerable lift for many of our customers, and we have several resources available to help.

First, we recently updated our help center so that users have guides for both the old experience and the new experience (including several new video walkthroughs of the navigation menus and homepage). Second, all of our training materials have been updated and can be provided by your Advisory Services representative.

Finally, in December 2023, all of our in-product training simulation videos will be updated with the new navigation experience.

Again, thank you for the feedback, and let me know if you have any follow-up questions!

-Kyle

Thanks for the updates on this important change!

Also, big thanks that you will make the menu items in alphabetical order and allow multi-program selections!  Huge improvements for usability.

Our users really want the multi program filter for backlog for PI planning and its a must need function for them. Good to note that the reports will be ordered and searchable.

Are you bringing back the menu Search functionality? This is also most used

We've been working on getting ahead of the new nav change management for several months with our users, @Kyle Foreman

For the most part, we've made the leap.

Appreciate the additional roadmap clarity into how different functionality will be rolled out leading up to March

Hi @Shyam Sundar P - Just a quick update... With the 10.127.2 release, users will be able to view multiple program backlogs. Multiple solution and portfolio backlogs will follow in upcoming releases. As for search, that is something we're exploring to bring back. No designs or timeframe to share yet, but stay tuned in our upcoming roadmap webinars for more updates.
