Earlier this year we announced the launch of the Atlassian value stream management (VSM) solution which brings together Jira Align, Jira Software and Atlassian Analytics to provide end-to-end visibility into the performance and productivity of teams while helping identify inefficiencies across a value stream.
We recently enhanced the Atlassian VSM solution with the launch of a new feature on Atlassian Analytics that enables you to connect Atlassian Analytics with Jira Align Enterprise Insights along with new out-of-the-box VSM flow metrics dashboards using Jira Align data.
You don’t need to be organized in value streams to start using the Atlassian VSM solution. Our solution designed to be flexible to accommodate your organization’s ways of working. Meaning whether you are doing VSM, agile at scale, waterfall or hybrid ways of working you can benefit from the Atlassian VSM solution. The solution provides you with valuable data points to assess your current state so you can determine where you need to focus your attention and identify a plan of action. Here are some of the features of the Atlassian VSM solution.
Jira Align has native functionality that supports VSM like the Backlog Kanban - Process Flow View that assists in visualizing and managing work across the value stream. The Backlog Kanban - Process Flow View uses a process flow that can be customized in Jira Align with your value stream’s process steps. Each card on the Backlog Kanban - Process Flow View displays key indicators on how many days a work item has been in a process step and in the value stream to help you see where in process there are potential impediments.
Backlog Kanban - Process Flow View
At the team level, the Insights feature in the Backlog and Active Sprint views in Jira Software provide teams with powerful data to understand their performance in sprints and highlights problems with their issues.
Backlog Insights
Backlog Insights provide information on a team’s sprint commitment and work breakdown to ensure that the team balances their sprint work between stories and bugs. These insights help teams ensure that they are not overcommitting in their sprints while also working on the most impactful things.
Active Sprint Insights
The Jira Active Sprint Kanban board like the Backlog Kanban - Sprint View in Jira Align visualizes a team’s work in progress (WIP) within the current sprint. The Sprint Insights feature highlights issues that need attention, sprint progress, and progress of epics (Jira Align features) to ensure that a team can maintain a continuous flow of work.
Atlassian Analytics is a powerful data visualization platform that enables you to create dynamic charts and dashboards using Jira and Jira Align data. In Atlassian Analytics, we offer several out-of-box VSM dashboards for you to choose from that you are also able to customize for your specific needs. Here are just a few of the dashboards that are available as part of the VSM solution.
Jira Align flow metrics (new)
When you connect Atlassian Analytics with Enterprise Insights you can access and download three new Jira Align flow metrics dashboards in Atlassian Analytics: Portfolio flow metrics, Solution flow metrics, and Value stream flow metrics. These dashboards provide VSM metrics such as cycle time, efficiency, throughput, and work in progress that help you measure the end-to-end flow of work through your portfolios, solutions and programs while also showing you how they impact your objectives and key results. We offer three different dashboards to give you the flexibility to accommodate how you have configured your value streams in Jira Align whether they are portfolios, solutions or programs. If you are not doing VSM or early in your VSM journey, you can still use these dashboards to establish a baseline and assess the performance and efficiency of your teams and team of teams.
Jira team VSM scorecards
While the Jira Align flow metrics dashboards can show you what is happening at a portfolio, solution and program level, the Jira team VSM scorecards dashboard gives you a bird’s eye view on a team’s performance and productivity using Jira data. The dashboard provides valuable team level metrics on median cycle time, the time issues spend in review, throughput by work category, maximum work in progress by person, overloaded assignees, bounced back issues, handed over issues, and stuck issues. This dashboard can quickly help teams identify possible bottlenecks and process inefficiencies while also providing recommended courses of action to help drive improvements.
The Atlassian value stream management solution is a powerful solution that can help unleash the potential of your teams and value streams. To see a demo of the solution, contact your Atlassian enterprise advocate or our Atlassian sales team.
