New and improved Strategic driver allocation report

Out with the old and in with the new! We’re excited to announce that we will be releasing updates to Strategic driver allocation report in the upcoming Jira Align release 11.7 (production release January 10, 2025). The Strategic Driver Allocation report is getting a complete face-lift and we’re also introducing enhancements to improve the usability of the report. If you’re not familiar with the report, it helps executive leaders and portfolio managers ensure that the work planned by teams aligns with the planned strategic allocations for a program increment (ex. quarter or planning interval).

New look and feel

One of the major things we’ve update is the user interface of the Strategic Driver Allocation report which has a new and modern look and feel. We’ve implemented new charts, an updated table, column sorting, enhanced pagination, and new filtering to make the report easier to use and understand.

New strategic driver filter

In this new version of the report, we’ve improved the filtering of epics by adding a new strategic driver filter above the epic table. Now you no longer have to scroll through a long list of epics to find the data you want to see.

New feature estimate allocation chart

A new addition to the Strategic driver allocation report is the ability to view the feature estimates allocation. We’ve added a new feature estimate allocation pie chart that displays the total of feature estimates allocated by the strategic driver assigned to its parent epic. This new pie chart gives you the ability to visually compare how your programs are allocating their work in the program increment and compare them to the program increment, epic estimate and accepted story allocation charts.

New feature and story estimate columns

We’ve replaced the progress bars in the Strategic driver report with three new columns: Feature estimate, Story point estimate and Accept story points. These new columns present the total feature and story estimates and accepted points estimated for each epic. They are intended to help you spot variances and analomales in estimates to see where your teams may have over allocated their efforts in a program increment.

On December 20, 2024, you’ll be able to preview and test drive the new Strategic driver allocation report in your Jira Align sandbox before it is available in production on January 10, 2025.

This is good news that you are making improvements to this important report.  Two questions come to mind:

1. When will forecasts be available by strategic driver, whether as part of this report or within the Forecasts module?  Estimates are fine and all but inconsistent and often wildly off in my org since they are made at the earliest point in the process.  Forecasts represent the refined estimates closer to the actual delivery timeline.
2. Will this be available through the API?
