Webinar follow-up: What's new and what's next in Atlassian Cloud

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone who joined our webinar on what's new and what's next in Atlassian Cloud! If you missed it, want to re-watch it, or share it with others, you can access the on-demand version here.

We also received a number of great questions during the session and wanted to follow up on those here. Read on to see your questions answered or hear what others are asking. And feel free to comment on this post if you have any other questions!

Q: During the migration, will we have to pay double fee for the Cloud instance and the DC instance ? It takes time to do this.

A: We have a number of options to help you save money when making the move from our self-managed products to our cloud products. First, we offer free Cloud migration trials that last for 12 months and allow you to test Atlassian Cloud features and migrate at your own pace. We also offer cloud loyalty discounts to customers with 1,001+ users to help ease the transition from server or Data Center to cloud. Lastly, we offer dual licensing for enterprise customers to help you avoid double costs and receive up to 12 months off of your self-hosted license while you plan, prepare, and migrate to your cloud site. You can reach out to your Enterprise Advocate to learn more about it.

We’d also love to hear more about your licensing needs for migrating. If you have thoughts or feedback, feel free to leave it in a comment on this post.

Q: Do you have a plan for supporting Schrems II ?

A: To address the latest update to GDPR and the European Commission’s recent updates to the SCCs as a result of the Schrems II decision, we’ve amended our Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and published a new Data Processing Addendum (DPA). Check out the GDPR page in our Compliance Resource Center for more information and visit the new DPA page to sign our updated terms.

Q: Can you tell us which of the data residency will be addressed first? Canada, UK or Japan? Is there any update on the launch date for data residency in Australia?

A: Data residency for all three countries - Canada, UK, and Japan - is in the works. We’ll share more details as we get closer to the release of each country.

Additionally, the launch of data residency in Australia is still on track.

You can sign up for updates about data residency via email on this page: https://www.atlassian.com/software/data-residency.

Q: Is dark mode going to be enabled in the future for the cloud web version of Jira software?

A: This is a highly requested feature from you, our customers, which is why we’re taking your feedback under consideration and laying the foundation necessary to potentially offer dark mode in the future. You can read an update from the Product Lead for Atlassian’s UI platform on this jira.atlassian.com ticket: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-63150.

Q: We purchased Atlassian Access this year and one of our biggest challenges is that we expected more admin controls after having claimed our domain. There continues to be much manual work in reaching out to every Org admin and asking them invite our admin account.  An additional layer of complexity is due to using a reseller to make our Atlassian purchases. It seems that unless they make us the primary billing contact, we cannot fully admin the account on our side. Are there any plans to enhance the capabilities for admin controls and ease of managing discovered cloud products?

A: The automatic product discovery feature provides visibility into your organization’s shadow IT and an actionable step to contact these admins to mitigate the concern. This is great for some customers but we understand organizations like yours may need more. The team is aware and is exploring different ways to help organizations better manage shadow IT.

Q: Are there plans to allow functional apps (e.g. ScriptRunner) deeper access to Jira Cloud?

A: We understand that many of our customers depend heavily on apps. And one in particular that many of our server and Data Center customers rely on is ScriptRunner. We’re aware of the current limitations of using ScriptRunner in cloud - particularly around the Behaviours feature - which is why we’re investigating solutions that will allow you to implement ScriptRunner Behaviours in cloud and unlock the full functionality that you’re accustomed to. Keep an eye out for more updates.

As for other apps, we’ll continue to assess whether additional solutions are needed and will update our roadmap accordingly. Watch our Cloud Roadmap for updates.

Q: Is Bamboo Cloud in the future roadmap?

A: We have Bitbucket Pipelines in our Bitbucket Cloud offering, which offers integrated CI/CD.

We’re also continuing to invest in Bitbucket Pipelines to evolve and enhance our Bamboo equivalent in Cloud. For example, we recently released Runners for Bitbucket Pipelines, which allow you to execute your pipelines builds on your own infrastructure, giving you more control over your server configurations and budgets. Learn more about this feature here.

Q: Will the same performance improvements be pushed down to the Data Center versions of the tools?  For when is that planned?

A: We are continuing to ensure our Data Center products are a feasible choice for those of our customers who strictly cannot migrate to cloud now or in the future. One area in particular that we’re investing in for our Data Center products is performance and scale. To learn more about our Data Center investments and see which improvements we've delivered or have on deck, visit our Data Center roadmap: https://www.atlassian.com/roadmap/data-center.

Q: Any plans to bring ProForma to Jira Software?

A: Yes, we are planning to launch a ProForma integration. Details around ProForma and Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Jira Work Management are coming soon.

Q: When will the Authentication policies allow me to require 2FA for non-managed accounts?  This is becoming vital for our cloud instance.

A: We are planning to make External User Security available in Q2-Q3 2022. This feature will allow you to establish minimum security requirements for users with access to your products that are not part of your organization.

Q: Why are uptime SLAs different between premium and enterprise cloud?

A: We offer a 99.95% uptime SLA in our Cloud Enterprise edition (as compared to a 99.9% uptime SLA in our Cloud Premium edition) for those organizations who are seeking a higher level of support and reliability. Both our Cloud Premium and Cloud Enterprise editions offer financially-backed SLAs so that you can rest assured we’re actively working to provide the highest level of reliability. But if your Atlassian tools are absolutely mission-critical and integral to your organization’s work and efficiency, our Cloud Enterprise products may be a good choice for an even greater level of uptime assurance.

And in addition to a higher uptime SLA, our Cloud Enterprise edition also includes unlimited instances, the Enterprise tier of support, and Atlassian Access. You can learn more about it here.

Q: Do you also plan to offer Application Level Encryption?

A: We do plan to offer application level encryption (ALE) on select data stores as part of our BYOK encryption capabilities (the first iteration of which will be offered in Q3-Q4 2022). At this time we don’t have plans to support wall-to-wall ALE across all data stores.

Q: Is the MS tools connection a basic integration by Atlassian or another app/add-on?

A: The Confluence Cloud for Microsoft Teams app is available on Microsoft AppSource for free.
