Hello, Atlassian Community! I am Matt Ogle, a Senior Product Marketing Manager focusing on the performance and scale of Atlassian Cloud.
We were fortunate to be able to discuss the topic of cloud performance and scale in person with many of you at Team '24, and we want to ensure that we provide transparency around what is being developed and delivered within this space. To help accomplish this, we will be delivering quarterly “Performance and Scale Digests” showcasing recent and upcoming investments, features, and capabilities.
Below you will find updates ranging from increased user limits to insights on how to architect your Atlassian environment for scale.
At the end of March we announced the ability to support up to 50,000 users on a single Jira instance. This milestone enables a jump of over 40% in user-scalability on a single Jira instance.
The Early Assessment Program (EAP) for 150,000 users on Confluence is making great progress and is currently targeted to GA by the end of the calendar year. This milestone enables a 200% leap in user-scalability on a single Confluence instance from its current 50,000 user limit.
We understand that having optimal performance and reliability at scale is paramount. Our enterprise topology guide shares strategic approaches and best-practices for effectively architecting your Atlassian Cloud environment.
Maintaining a performant environment is critical to your success. Check out everything from new features that enable you to optimize performance to product experience improvements that help you get work done faster.
The site optimizer is an administrative toolkit designed to maximize Jira cloud performance for large instances on Cloud Enterprise plans. Take advantage of a clear dashboard with visualizations to see how your site attributes compare to our recommended thresholds. You can then take immediate action by removing any unused attributes from the instance in bulk, enabling faster, easier, and more efficient site management. As seen in the GIF below, it is very easy to improve performance by following recommended hygiene practices. You can also watch this video for a more comprehensive overview.
Today, the site optimizer can be used to clean up custom fields, issues and projects, and roles and permissions, with support for more attributes coming in the future. If you want to ensure optimal performance and a smooth user-experience, we highlight recommend using the site optimizer.
There are two APIs as part of the Bulk Operations Beta Program - the Bulk Edit API and the Bulk Move API. The Bulk Edit API allows you to search/edit fields, return paginated results, and track the progress of bulk operations. Similarly, the Bulk Move API allows you to move issues between projects and issue types, specify values for mandatory fields, and monitor the progress of these operations.
By automating the issue update process, the Bulk Ops APIs increase workflow efficiency and gives you more time to focus on high-priority initiatives. Additionally, because bulk issue updates are now taking place in the API, you can continue working in your existing Jira tab while they occur.
While Bulk Ops APIs are currently slated to release in Q3 2024, we are inviting all Atlassian users to join the Beta program right now! Participants in the Beta will experience firsthand how these APIs can streamline your workflows, save you time, and improve organizational productivity.
Your teams need responsive applications to stay agile and keep projects on schedule. That is why we continue to invest in our cloud products' performance. We are pleased to share the following core performance improvements:
These improvements mean less waiting and more productivity for your teams.
We replaced the legacy Global Issue Navigator (GIN) with the New Issue Navigator (NIN), Jira now delivers faster performance and a better user experience for issue searches and lists. With various new APIs, feature enhancements, and a modernized user-interface (UI), you will find that working with Jira issues feels familiar, yet faster and more intuitive.
All Jira tenants now have a 13.4% performance improvement for page loading times, enabling you to start taking action faster.
Additionally, the UI redesign and feature enhancements create a more seamless user experience that promotes greater efficiency for your teams. A few of these improvements include JQL syntax highlighting, Natural Language searches, switching between views and modes, and in-line editing, as seen in the GIF below:
We are committed to continue investing in the performance and scalability of our products to meet your organization's needs and demands. We hop you found the iteration of the Cloud Performance and Scale digest valuable. We would love for you to join the conversation in the comments below and share your thoughts.
