Easily clean up Jira projects with project cleanup for site optimizer

Hi, I’m Mohamed Almoaz, a Senior Product Manager on the Jira team. I’m pleased to share that Site Optimizer’s functionality for Jira Cloud Enterprise plans has expanded to include project cleanup.

If you’re not already aware, Site Optimizer is a powerful, immersive dashboard that unlocks new ways for admins to efficiently manage and optimize their sites by cleaning up recommended site “clutter” like old issues, custom fields, and now— projects!

Boost performance with project cleanup

Removing old or inactive Jira projects is a great way to keep your site performant, as project bloat can degrade site speed. However, we know from your feedback that admins often struggle to manage large numbers of projects because manually cleaning up these projects is both tedious and time-consuming.

To remedy this, the new project cleanup feature lets admins streamline projects quickly and efficiently. Similar to issues and custom fields in Site Optimizer, project cleanup shows admins when project counts reach the recommended threshold, provides recommendations on old or inactive projects to clean up, and enables cleanups to be done in bulk. By bulk archiving or deleting recommended projects, you declutter your instance and improve performance.

How it works:

  • Access your recommendations: Start by clicking “optimize projects” in the Site Optimizer view. This takes you to the analysis page, which shows the total number of projects (including team-managed projects and company-managed projects) and the projects recommended for archival or deletion.

  • Filter your view: Customize your cleanup by filtering projects that are empty, without issues, or have been inactive for more than 6 months.

  • Clean up your projects: Move projects to trash or archive them to streamline your site.

Check it out below or learn more about Project Cleanup for Site Optimizer in our product documentation. Thanks for reading!

Thanks @Mohamed Almoaz - are there plans for cleanup of unused boards, filters, and dashboards?  Projects we generally can find when people aren't using them, but I'm not aware of any tools to help with the clutter of boards, filters, and dashboards.
