App activity logs are coming to Atlassian Audit Logs

App activity logs are currently being rolled out in the Atlassian audit logs for Admins with Atlassian Guard Premium or Cloud Enterprise licenses.

What are app activity logs?

App activity logs records third-party app activity in the form of API calls to Jira and Confluence. The new logging solution enables Admins to monitor app activity while delivering incident response and streamlined compliance reporting.

What app activities are logged?

By the end of February 2025, we will show app API calls for Connect, Forge and 3LO apps through the Atlassian audit logs in admin.atlassian.com to Cloud Enterprise customers or Atlassian Guard Premium subscribers. Logs will display an app’s API call and related response code as well as information about whether the call was made from the app or on behalf of a user.

For example, in the image below, an Admin filtered for app activity logs in the audit logs. As a result, the app API calls and related response codes are shown.

To view and search for app activity logs in the audit log UI:

  1. Go to admin.atlassian.com. Select your organization if you have more than one.

  2. Select Security > Audit log.

  3. Search for Third-party app Confluence API request and/or Third-party app Jira API request and depending on your criteria select from Jira app actions or Confluence app actions category or both.

  4. Narrow the search results by specifying the dates.

  5. Click Apply to search.

Alternatively, Admins can choose to register for a webhook to stream the API logs to their preferred destination for further analysis or integrate with a threat detection tool they may use.

Finally, there is also the option to use the audit log API.

Why are app activity logs important?

Customers using Cloud apps have requested the ability to review app activities and react to unexpected behavior that could potentially pose threats to app security and performance. Highly regulated organizations – such as finance, healthcare, or government institutions – require app activity logs to comply with strict data privacy and security regulations.

How can Admins access app activity logs?

App activity logs are available with Atlassian Guard Premium or Cloud Enterprise licenses. Admins with access can find app activity logs within audit logs on Admin Hub.

Thanks .... But ....

"... with Atlassian Guard Premium or Cloud Enterprise licenses" :( :( :(

Please push this to at least Premium Cloud plans? This would be insightful and a great help for many users I'm sure.

Also would it only capture API logging or also front end interactions and usage with the third party apps?

Thank you

Yatish
