Atlassian is now offering free product licenses to HBCUs

***If you are an administrator at a Historically Black College or University, you can fill out this form to kick off your free Atlassian product license.***

Atlassian is excited to announce that we are now offering free product licenses to all accredited Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States.

We have recently been looking into different ways we can lend access to underserved communities in the form of teamwork tools and know-how. As we consider different use cases for our offerings, we believe those in educational systems benefit from our software, but some institutions have less normalized pathways to accessing and using the software.

To remedy this, we hope that through offering our products for free to HBCUs, we will be able to support the vital role they play in providing affordable education to Black students across the United States and educating the majority of the nation’s Black doctors, engineers, judges, and teachers. HBCUs do incredible work, providing world class education to their students against the odds, despite being historically underfunded by more than $12 billion dollars over the last 30 years. We’re excited to explore the ways in which increased access to our tools can further empower the efforts of these colleges and universities in their mission.

At Atlassian, we know our products can transform the way that teams in higher education work together. Our products are trusted by institutions such as Yale, Stanford, and Duke University and have a proven track record for empowering teams to become more effective by simplifying workflows, saving time, and introducing agility into academic workplaces. At ASU, Atlassian products were integral as the university’s IT team adapted to a growing student population and a curriculum that supported both in-person and online coursework. At Yale, Jira Service Management helped centralize IT requests and enabled the team to manage requests from across the globe.

Through our new program, university administrators with a .edu email address associated with an accredited HBCU will be able to request a free Atlassian product license or convert their current paid licenses to be offered for free. Free licenses can be requested for:

  • Jira Software Cloud Standard/Premium

  • Jira Work Management Cloud

  • Jira Service Management Cloud Standard/Premium

  • Confluence Cloud Standard/Premium

  • Atlassian-built apps

  • Bitbucket Cloud

  • Access

  • Atlas

We will survey all end users periodically throughout the duration of the partnership in order to ensure that the program is meeting its stated goals and to ensure that HBCU administrators are satisfied with the offerings. This is a pilot program set to run for a year with an opportunity to be extended if all partners are satisfied with the offering and wish to renew. We are excited to cement more partnerships with HBCUs and the talented teams that support their operations. Please fill out this form if you are interested and we will be in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!
