DORA Metrics

Deepak Kalra June 11, 2024

Hello !!!

We are about to implement JIRA workflow in Release Management that can help produce DORA like metrics. That will be completely manual.

Any inputs on plugin available that can help us achieve same. We are using Jenkins and Gitlab.

Hello @Deepak Kalra

As far as I know some of the requirements of DORA metrics are MTTR and reliability, which means that you should be able to restore your DevOps data fast. For that reason, you can take a look at GitProtect backup and Disaster Recovery software for Jira Software, Jira Work Management, Jira Service Management, GitLab, Bitbucket, and GitHub.  With the backup solution you can follow the DevOps backup best practices and permits quickly restore DevOps data from any point in time, or ganularly to your local machine, to the same or new account, to another git hosting platform (any between Bitbucket, GitLab, GitHub), etc. Thus, you will be able to ensure business continuity and eliminate data loss.

@Deepak Kalra you might find it useful to explore using Compass and integrating it with Gitlab and Jenkins.

When you connect Gitlab to Compass you'll get some derived metrics out of the box. You'll import Gitlab repositories to populate your component catalog and this will link components to repos.

  • Setting up the Gitlab integration and importing components will provide you with component level metrics out of the box (some of which overlap with DORA)
  • For Jenkins, Compass can derive metrics if you push in events (like deployments). Derived metrics are automatically calculated based on the events received for your Compass component (e.g. deployment frequency)

Next you can start to create Teams and assign those to components. Once you do that, you'll be able to get a view of devops metrics at the Team level using the Developer Experience Dashboard: https://developer.atlassian.com/cloud/compass/teams/what-is-the-developer-experience-dashboard/
