Creating a Release Management Process in Jira

Alexander Wildes Jr November 10, 2022

Hello Everyone,

I posted this as a question, but I think I should have created a discussion entry, thus here I am.   I have been tasked to mimic what we call a Release Management Process from one system into Jira Cloud. Our process entails a workflow in which a Project/Program Manager submits a ticket for a release into Production. The ticket will go from submission to code review to Stage to QA to UAT to Approved for Release. From there the ticket will go through an approval process before deployment. I attempted to do this in Jira Software Cloud, however I am wondering if anyone has tried to perform such a feat. A project based on a JSM template seems to be the best way to go, however I would like know if anyone in the community has done anything like this and can offer any suggestions.

Thank you in advance
Always

Hi @Alexander Wildes Jr

Templates are great to get started and understand how Jira works but you can always create/modify workflows in Jira.

- You can first agree internally with your team on the process and then draw it somewhere.

- Once your process flow is ready then find out who can do what, like who will approve or move things forward.

- Based on that you can then create a workflow in Jira. In that workflow you can define who can make a transition (like approve) and also do other checks.

I hope it helps.

Ravi
