Hello Community!

As recently announced, the Confluence Server and Data Center 8.5 Long Term Support release is now available! We want to highlight a new feature that is included in this release that we know many of you have eagerly awaited: the updated backup and restore experience.

First released in Confluence 8.3, the improvements will make backing up and restoring your Confluence data easier to manage, much faster, and more stable.

Here are all of the benefits you can expect from the new experience:

  • The ability to backup and restore multiple spaces, instead of the entire site. This allows you to backup in batches based on topic, themes, department or project.
  • Faster XML backup and restore operations with performance that is up to 10 to 50 times faster based on the size of your instance.
  • Improved reliability and reduced resource consumption.
  • More visibility and control with the ability to cancel backup and restore jobs.
  • Additionally, you’ll find a documented API that allows for the automation of heavy or large site merges and space migrations, making it easier to manage these tasks.

How can you use these improvements in your daily work?

The new backup and restore experience will do the heavy lifting for all your database migration needs. Gone are the days of having to do dozens of space backup and restore cycles, you can now easily consolidate sites using backup and restore. Use the new capability to export a backup that can be restored into various systems, without requiring like-for-like infrastructure. This is particularly useful for disaster recovery.

Backup and restore jobs — now faster, more reliable and easier to manage.
