How does your enterprise anticipate scalability?

At Valiantys, our experience as an Atlassian Platinum Solution Partner has given us years of both technical and human experience with helping clients move to Data Center. Here's some tips we recommend:

- Anticipate! Know where your tipping points in your instance might be not just today, but try to have a 12 month roadmap. Are you reaching the limits of your hardware, or can you use that as a leverage? Are the increasing concurrent users going to be an issue, or is your instance stable on that front?

- Have a governance system in place. This is going to help you define what can and can not be done in Jira, and will help you be proactive rather than reactive in your scaling journey.

- Be certain that Data Center will work with your needs by running a proper PoC. Every client we see is unique, resulting in instances that are set up very differently. Sometimes you’ll see volume that is high, but complexity that is low. For others it’s the opposite, for example when many different Marketplace apps are integrated into Jira. Running a PoC will let you know what works for you.

For more info, Valiantys and Atlassian have copublished a new whitepaper Performance at Scale: 10 million issues and beyond with Jira Data Center. It looks at the root causes that result in Jira Server reaching its tipping point and how to anticipate this in advance. We've also written about this more on our blog

What other tips can you add to this list? We'd love to hear from you!
