Hi Atlassian Community!
I'm Alison Huselid, and I am the Head of Product for Data Center at Atlassian. I am hosting a webinar on December 9 PT about upcoming additions to our roadmap in the next six months, but I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve shipped over the past year for those of you who might have missed it.
As a reminder, the majority of our investments in Data Center have been in six key areas:
Infrastructure & operations
User management
Scale, performance, & availability
Security, compliance & governance
Apps & extensibility
Data & insights (our latest addition)
Over the past year, we’ve significantly invested in our Data Center offerings in the majority of these pillars. Let’s take a look at some of the most notable investments.
Infrastructure and operations
Non-clustered architecture: If you don’t need high availability, you can still leverage Data Center’s enterprise features by deploying in a non-clustered architecture. By simply entering your new Data Center license key into your server instance, you can deploy Data Center using your current infrastructure and begin leveraging any Data Center features that don't require clustering.
Docker images: Deploy your Data Center products using a Docker container image. By deploying Data Center with Docker, you can instantly deploy exact replicas of your environment from the command line.
AWS and Azure templates: We added support for AWS and Azure to the last product in the Data Center family. You can now quickly and easily set up a clustered Crowd deployment on AWS using a Quick Start Template or Azure with our reference templates. (Crowd only)
User management
OpenID Connect: Enable single sign-on for your self-hosted Atlassian products and manage your users seamlessly and securely. Atlassian provides the OpenID Connect app which allows Confluence Data Center to connect to an identity provider (IdP) to provide authentication of your users. Learn more.
Just-in-time user provisioning: Create and update users automatically when they log in through SAML SSO or OpenID Connect (OIDC) SSO to Atlassian Data Center applications such as Jira, Confluence, or Bitbucket to ensure your users have access to the right tools from the moment they first log in.
Scale, performance, and availability
Rate limiting: Keep your mission-critical tools safer, providing the ability to identify, respond, and prevent bad actors and threats from flooding the REST API, and negatively impacting both the instance and business. Learn more.
Extended Cluster Monitoring capabilities: We extended the capabilities of the Atlassian Cluster Monitoring plugin to Jira Software so you now have more tools to manage your Data Center nodes. We're displaying all your clustered nodes on a separate page with the information on node uptime (since last restart), ID, load, and memory. (Jira only)
Amazon Aurora support: We support Amazon Aurora, a highly available database. Amazon Aurora is a PostgreSQL-compatible database that provides another layer of resilience across the full application stack for Data Center. Amazon Aurora leverages clustered and distributed database architecture for higher resilience and an automated failover plan.
Zero-impact re-indexing: With zero-impact re-indexing, rebuilding your search index in a cluster is hassle-free. We've reduced the number of steps, and removed the need for any manual file handling during the re-index process. When you rebuild the index on one node, we'll automatically propagate the new index file to every node in the cluster. (Confluence only)
Mirror farms: To improve git clone speeds and increase CI/CD capacity, we’ve enhanced our smart mirroring capabilities to allow teams to cluster live mirrors nodes that host copies of repositories in remote locations into “farms” grouped behind a load balancer. Large repositories that use to take hours to clone and/or congestion caused by CI builds are a thing of the past with smart mirror farms. (Bitbucket only)
Security, compliance, and governance
Advanced auditing: Atlassian’s advanced auditing capabilities give your organization a security-relevant digital record to help demonstrate compliance, improve security, and better manage risk while enabling your admins to have the level of visibility they need to monitor the state of your business. Learn more.
Advanced permissions: Confluence Data Center introduced new permissions features including auditing, troubleshooting, and bulk editing to help you easily identify and understand who has access to spaces and pages, and to reduce the amount of time you spend managing permissions. (Confluence only)
We also have a few exciting updates coming in the next six months. I’ll share a sneak peek of some of our biggest updates.
Rolling upgrades: We’re adding onto a similar capability already available for any upgrade in Jira Software and Jira Service Desk, we are introducing zero downtime upgrades for bug fixes in Confluence and Bitbucket.
Data Pipeline: With our latest insights feature, unlock actionable data and insight about your organization’s work and teams.
Instance clean-up: We’re also expanding on our instance clean up capabilities and will be strengthening our Jira capabilities and building new capabilities in Confluence and Bitbucket to reduce the amount of data that is cluttering up your instance and increase the response speed of your products and reduce the size of your index.
Support for Multiple IdPs: With support for multiple IdPs, you will now be able to add more than one Identity Provider in your SAML or OpenID Connect configuration in Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket Data Center.
Your favorite Atlassian-built apps included with Data Center: Some of our most powerful Atlassian apps will be included with our Data Center subscriptions to help you meet your need for better collaboration and increased insights.
Jira Software Data Center: Advanced Roadmaps (formerly Portfolio for Jira)
Confluence Data Center: Team Calendars for Confluence, Analytics for Confluence
Jira Service Desk Data Center: Insight - Asset Management, Insight Discovery

We are committed to investing in Data Center for the long term, and we hope that the velocity with which we are shipping new features and functionality to Data Center - and the fact that we are launching a brand new Data Center product, Bamboo Data Center, - reassures you of this commitment. We understand that it is a critical offering for many of our customers with strict business requirements or regulations.
