Now available: Jira Software and Jira Service Management Data Center 10.3 Long Term Support (LTS)

👋 Hello, Community!

We know that many of you have been eagerly waiting for the upcoming Jira Software and Jira Service Management Data Center Long Term Support (LTS) release. We’re excited to share that Jira Software and Jira Service Management 10.3 LTS have just been released!

Why choose a Long Term Support release?

Upgrading to a Long Term Support (LTS) release provides you with continued access to critical security, stability, data integrity and performance fixes for the full two years before this version reaches its end of life. It enables you to move quickly when a high-impact bug fix or security fix is ported over and released for upgrading.

What to look forward to in Jira Software and Jira Service Management 10.3

This Long Term Support (LTS) release is packed with features to enhance stability and extended support so that your teams can focus on what they do best. With these versions, you'll benefit from the latest features, enhanced security investments, accessibility and performance improvements, all backed by our dedicated support.

Security and compliance

Since the last LTS, we’ve brought improvements to instance security, introducing our Security Hub for better security guidance, building a safer login experience involving two step verification, and providing better secret storage, security monitoring, and insight into SBOMs among many more updates.

Accessibility

Apart from accessibility improvements for low-vision and keyboard-only users, we’ve introduced dark theme to Jira, giving you a new experience for enhanced content readability and visual harmony across work environments as well as better visuals and less eye strain. There’s also a new light theme which replaced the old original theme as the new default.

Ease of use and automation

We’ve improved the Jira experience, providing you with an easier way to sort and archive issues, configure your fields, and add watchers. We’ve also made sure to bring updates to Jira automation so that you can fully utilize its potential.

The list of key features

The Jira Software and Jira Service Management 10.3 LTS incorporate all enhancements and features that have been introduced since the release of Jira Software 9.12 and Jira Service Management 5.12, which was our most recent Long Term Support release.

Is a comprehensive performance test report available for version 10 yet?

Thank you for this announcement @Piotr Górecki . I'd like to highlight an important detail that isn't visible in this announcement, release notes or upgrade notes for Jira 10.3. When upgrading to 10.3, you will also upgrade your system to Platform 7, which is a major rewrite of the core system architecture and the interfaces with apps/plugins that was introduced in version 10.0. Everyone upgrading should take a good look at the 10.0 release notes and 10.0 upgrade notes.

I recommend testing version 10.3 with all production-relevant apps in a dev environment to reduce the risk of unexpected production outages. If you have internally written plugins, they will also be affected by the platform 7 changes. We app vendors have put down a lot of testing efforts to achieve compatibility with this new release. However, even if an app is marked as "compatible", the risk of unexpected issues is a lot higher that normal for a major version upgrade due to the many fundamental changes in Platform 7.

Hi Piotr,

I would like to highlight

  • (1) Morten Stengaard's comment and
  • (2) Normann P_ Nielsen _Netic_'s comment

on the September 2 announcement of this release.

Also, there is still not enough integration of Assets (aka Insight) into Jira Service Management. We are still using highly user-unfriendly workarounds to do something basic like modifying an asset attribute from a ticket - this should be a standard incident- / change management feature.

Here are a few other features that require implementation.

Regards

Paul
