Monitor Apps and gain performance insights: App monitoring and templates now available with Jira 9.1

Hey DC Community!

I am Mike from the DC product group. I am excited to announce that app monitoring is now available for Jira 9.1!

Benefits of using App monitoring

Some of you may recognise this feature from its release in Confluence 7.18. App monitoring enables your organisation to gain greater insight into third-party apps' resource utilisation and performance via performance and API usage metrics.

It gives you a deeper insight into what apps are doing in your instances. For example, it helps to troubleshoot issues with a specific app or to help you determine whether or not an app may have contributed to a drop in overall performance or stability.

In addition, this feature provides guidance and templates to connect your instance with Prometheus and Grafana so that you can quickly set up App monitoring dashboards, as the sample image shows below.

Please visit our feature document and learn more about App Monitoring in Jira 9.1. And check out our guide, which helps you monitor Jira with Prometheus and Grafana. It is also highly recommended to look at the App performance metrics.

Again, thank you all for being part of the DC community and sharing your passion for improving our products. Please do give us your feedback and leave your comments below.

Regards,
DC Product Team

Thanks @Mike Ni

Does this new app monitoring capability identifies the app usage in Jira (and Confluence)? Like how many users use a particular app/plug-in and the usage overtime? If so, can you share how it works?

Hey @Joe Lo

It is great to hear from you!

To your question, App monitoring does not show the app usage by users or projects in Jira.

That said, the App usage feature you described is one of the following features we are exploring internally. If you are interested in knowing more or being a potential EAP customer when we have a prototype, feel free to reach out to me.

By the way, since you mention Confluence, how helpful is the Macro usage panel in Confluence to your team. It shows the usage of macros that is related to Apps.

Regards

Mike

Is it possible that same kind thing come to zabbix also?

Hey @Urmo ,

We built templates for Prometheus and Grafana as we see them be adopted by many DC customers. So those templates we provided aim to give them a jump start.

However, we understand our customers want to have their own choice when it comes to using monitoring tools. So if your team is not using Prometheus and Grafana, you can still build your monitoring using the JMX metrics we expose. We don't have a template for Zabbix yet. But if your team has built something you believe is useful, please do share it with us and our community. We will be happy to have a look.

Cheers
