We are excited to announce the introduction of dark theme for Data Center! If you follow the Data Center roadmap, you may have noticed that this was added not too long ago. We know dark theme is a highly requested feature and we will incrementally roll it out across the products.
Adding a dark theme puts you in control of your interface, allowing you to work in your choice of color scheme while helping many of our users better focus on their screens. These experience updates help everyone work more efficiently while enjoying reduced visual distractions. And of course, a dark theme can also reduce power consumption and extend battery life on some devices, making it a winning feature for both users and the environment.
Can’t wait to see it in action? Check out this early preview of Bitbucket’s dark theme:
Control your Data Center user interface look and feel
Dark theme offers users more control over the look and feel of their Data Center products to meet their unique preferences. This also allows them to better align their visual style preferences with other tools, like Atlassian cloud products and apps like Slack. Of course, a dark theme is more aesthetically pleasing for some users, and maintaining a consistent color scheme between environments helps to ease context switching to create a comfortable, cohesive user experience.
Enhance your focus and reduce eye strain
For many people, darker backgrounds reduce visual distractions, allowing users to focus more effectively on their work. Using a dark theme can therefore help to boost productivity through improved contrast and readability of content, making it easier for some users to scan and locate information quickly.
Adding a dark theme to Data Center’s interface also reduces eye strain, particularly benefiting individuals with visual sensitivities. This allows for prolonged focus, sustained concentration, and a more comfortable user experience for all our users.
Work toward your regulatory and compliance goals
Dark theme can also help organizations meet their compliance goals by ensuring a wider range of users can comfortably and safely utilize Data Center products. Reducing eye strain and offering custom interface options for users is an important step to help organizations address two common regulatory goals, accessibility, and usability.
And of course, dark backgrounds require less energy to display than bright ones, resulting in potential energy savings when using Data Center products. By reducing power consumption while using dark theme, you can contribute to your organization’s sustainability goals!
Finally, we are working with Atlassian app vendors to fully support their adoption of dark theme, using the same design system we are using to create dark theme for our core products. While some vendors may need more time to develop a dark theme for their apps, we are working closely with them to ensure the best possible user experience.
For the latest updates, please follow the Data Center roadmap and each product’s respective JAC ticket, listed below.
Thank you for being part of the Data Center community and joining us in celebrating this new feature!
