Hello, Data Center Community!
We’re excited to announce that Bitbucket 8.9 for Server and Data Center is now live as the latest Bitbucket Data Center Long Term Support (LTS) release.
Upgrading to an LTS release provides you with continued access to critical security, stability, data integrity, and performance fixes for the two-year support window before this version reaches its end of life.
In addition to the benefits of an LTS release, Bitbucket Data Center 8.9 includes a variety of features released since the last 7.21 LTS release. These new features provide security and performance improvements designed to help you work more efficiently. Just a few of those include:
Optimized performance and reliability
Bitbucket Mesh 2.0: Bitbucket Mesh offers a more powerful, scalable, enterprise-grade Bitbucket Data Center experience. Mesh can now also be deployed using Kubernetes Helm Charts. (Data Center) Learn more about what’s new for Bitbucket Mesh.
Authorization and permissions performance improvements: Bitbucket now calculates user permissions and does authorization faster than ever, improving performance for instances with large numbers of permissions, users, and groups.
Enhanced security
Secret scanning: Scan incoming commits automatically to detect accidentally exposed secrets such as tokens, private keys, passwords, or environment variables. (Data Center)
Enforced project settings: Improve your organization’s security posture by enforcing a specific configuration of project settings, preventing repository admins from making unwanted adjustments to repository settings. (Data Center)
Transparent permissions: Quickly find users and permissions with the redesigned project and repository permission pages. These now display all user permissions (both explicit and inherited) and include new filters to help you quickly find users and permissions, even in repositories with many users and groups.
Improved developer productivity
Webhooks for projects: Simplify your work by configuring webhooks for projects instead of individual repositories.
Default tasks for pull requests: Create more efficient code reviews and consistent processes with a standardized set of tasks created together with the pull requests.
We understand upgrades can take some planning; here’s a round-up of resources to help you get started:
